Europe’s digital future is here – highlights from the DemoDay of EuropeanPioneers

19. April 2016

Last week, the second round of financing of the etventure-led EuropeanPioneers came to an end. Under the motto “Europe’s digital future is here”, the 13 startups presented themselves to a large audience at DemoDay in Berlin. Around 250 guests, including founders, investors, mentors and media representatives were able to find out about innovative ideas and listen to fascinating startup pitches.

The 13 startups were accompanied by EuropeanPioneers for eight months. The accelerator program not only includes funding of EUR 175,000 per startup but also comprehensive content support – from the development of a business model to user testing through to marketing of the business idea. DemoDay heralded the end of an exciting time for the founding teams but also for the team of EuropeanPioneers.

What have the startups achieved in eight months? What are the next steps in the journey? During DemoDay, the founders presented their business models, highlights and milestones. With their ideas, the startups are covering a wide variety of areas and sectors: AgriTech, Food, Energy, Smart City, Internet of Things (IoT), Media & Content and EdTech. The success of the various founding teams is evident. Besides successful product launches, they were able to gain renowned clients, cooperation partners and new investors. The Israeli startup Fitfully, which has developed a system in which you can try on shoes virtually,  is now collaborating with Adidas. The music messaging service Doowapp is working together with Sony and the Berlin AgriTech startup INFARM with the Metro Group. Cornelius Rabsch, Founder of BeaconInside, a manufacturer-independent provider of an iBeacon- und Eddystone-Beacon management platform, could also report on the successful collaboration with Google during DemoDay: As the sole German provider, BEACONInside worked on the further development of the Eddystone Beacon Standard together with Google.

“We are extremely proud of our startups and the way they have developed in the last eight months,” explains Laura Kohler, Managing Director of the European Innovation Hub and Director of EuropeanPioneers. Besides the team from EuropeanPioneers, the various partners of the program, such as Fraunhofer IAIS, were also present. The European Commission was also represented by Bogdan Florin Ceobanu. The keynote speech was given by founder and investor Thomas Hessler. “Pitch doctor“ Christoph Sollich also delivered with his Berlin-Pitch, which proved to be an absolute highlight.
